Water & Wastewater Utilities is a 7-course online training package for water and wastewater treatment plant operators, small-to-mid utilities, and municipal water districts. It covers permit-required confined space, chlorine safety, disinfectant safety (sodium and calcium hypochlorite), HAZCOM, HAZWOPER awareness, treatment plant laboratory safety, and crisis management. Pricing starts at $123 per employee for teams of 50 to 99 and goes up to $169 per employee for teams of 1 to 9. Four of the seven courses are bilingual EN/ES; the three chemical and lab courses (chlorine, disinfectant, treatment plant lab) are English only. This bundle does not cover electric utility qualified-employee training.

What This Package Covers

Water and wastewater operations have a distinct hazard profile from any other industrial vertical. Permit-required confined spaces (clarifiers, digesters, wet wells, manholes), chlorine and disinfectant chemical exposure, hazwoper-relevant emergency response, and treatment plant laboratory work all anchor daily operations at any utility. The buyer is typically the operations director or safety coordinator at a small-to-mid utility, and the catalog is reasonably strong for awareness-level training across all of these topics.

This package covers the seven hazard topics that anchor any defensible operator-level safety program. Buying these courses individually at retail would cost $175 to $210 per employee. This package delivers all seven for $123 to $169 per employee depending on your team size.

Designed for

Water and wastewater treatment plant operators, small-to-mid water and wastewater utilities, municipal water districts where the utility is operated separately from public works, and utility safety coordinators preparing operator training programs. Not for electric utilities - qualified-employee training under 29 CFR 1910.269 is structurally outside catalog scope.

Courses Included

Four of the seven courses are available in English and Spanish at no additional charge. Three courses (Chlorine Safety, Disinfectant Safety, Treatment Plant Laboratory Safety) are English only.

What These Courses Address

Water and wastewater operations are governed by a tight cluster of OSHA general industry standards. Permit-required confined space programs and entrant training are required under 29 CFR 1910.146. Process Safety Management requirements apply at chlorine threshold quantities under 29 CFR 1910.119. HAZCOM training is required before chemical exposure, per 29 CFR 1910.1200(h). HAZWOPER awareness training is required for any employee who may respond to hazardous spills, per 29 CFR 1910.120(q)(6)(i). Respiratory protection programs and training are required under 29 CFR 1910.134 wherever airborne hazards may exceed exposure limits.

Confined space violations carry some of the highest average penalty amounts in OSHA enforcement actions. Penalties for serious violations can reach $16,550 per instance; repeat or willful violations carry penalties up to $165,514. Each course produces a downloadable certificate suitable for OSHA recordkeeping, state regulatory inspections, and operator licensure documentation.

Common Questions

Does this package qualify operators for HAZWOPER 24-hour or 40-hour credentials?
No. This package includes HAZWOPER Awareness only - the entry-level training for any employee who may witness or report a hazardous release. The 24-hour and 40-hour HAZWOPER credentials (Operations and Technician levels) require instructor-led training with hands-on field exercises and are out of scope for any online-only catalog. Buyers needing those credentials should consult an authorized HAZWOPER training provider.
Is electric utility training covered?
No. Qualified-employee training under 29 CFR 1910.269 (electric utility lineman, substation work, qualified-electrical-worker credentials) is structurally outside catalog scope. These credentials are delivered through union apprenticeships, IBEW programs, and specialized providers. This bundle serves water and wastewater operations only.
Why are some courses English only?
Three of the seven courses (Chlorine Safety, Disinfectant Safety, Treatment Plant Laboratory Safety) are produced by specialty providers in the catalog who do not offer Spanish narration for these specific titles. The four most-broadly-applicable courses (Confined Space, HAZCOM, HAZWOPER Awareness, Crisis Management) are available in English and Spanish. We disclose this honestly so Spanish-speaking operators and their managers can plan accordingly.
How does this differ from the Water & Wastewater Core starter pack?
The starter pack is 4 courses (Confined Space, Chlorine, HAZCOM, HAZWOPER Awareness) at $70-$99 per employee, anchored on the chemical and confined-space hazards every operator needs. The comprehensive Water & Wastewater Utilities bundle is 7 courses at $123-$169 per employee, adding Disinfectant Safety, Treatment Plant Laboratory Safety, and Crisis Management for a complete program. Either is defensible; pick the one that matches your operation's scope.
Are confined space rescue procedures included?
The confined space course covers entry conditions, atmospheric testing, attendant duties, and rescue procedure planning. Rescue team practical training (entry-rescuer skills, equipment use under simulation) requires hands-on instructor-led exercises and is out of scope for any online-only catalog. Many utilities pair online entrant and attendant training with annual hands-on rescue drills delivered through fire department or specialized rescue training contractors.
