Water & Wastewater Core is a 4-course online safety starter package for very small water and wastewater utilities (5-25 employees), small water districts, single-treatment-plant operations, and any operator making their first compliance training purchase. It covers permit-required confined space, chlorine safety, HAZCOM, and HAZWOPER awareness - anchored on the chemical and confined-space hazards that define water/wastewater work. Pricing starts at $70 per employee for teams of 50 to 99 and goes up to $99 per employee for teams of 1 to 9. Three of the four courses are available in English and Spanish; Chlorine Safety is English only. Each employee receives a certificate of completion.

What This Package Covers

Permit-required confined space (clarifiers, digesters, wet wells, manholes), chlorine handling, hazcom, and HAZWOPER awareness are the four foundational topics every water and wastewater operator needs. Smaller utilities often cannot justify the 7-course comprehensive bundle on a first purchase, but they do need documented compliance training on the four core hazards.

This starter pack stands on its own as a complete answer for very small utilities making their first compliance training purchase. Buying these courses individually at retail would cost $100 to $120 per employee. This package delivers all four for $70 to $99 per employee depending on your team size. The comprehensive Water & Wastewater Utilities bundle is the natural upgrade when you need disinfectant safety, treatment plant lab safety, and crisis management coverage.

Designed for

Very small water and wastewater utilities (5-25 employees), small water districts, single-treatment-plant operations, and any water/wastewater operator making their first compliance training purchase. Not for electric utilities - qualified-employee training under 29 CFR 1910.269 is structurally outside catalog scope.

Courses Included

Three of the four courses are available in English and Spanish at no additional charge. Chlorine Safety is English only.

What These Courses Address

The four courses anchor on the regulatory foundation for water and wastewater operations. Permit-required confined space programs and entrant training are required under 29 CFR 1910.146. Chlorine safety addresses Process Safety Management requirements under 29 CFR 1910.119 at threshold quantities. HAZCOM training is required before chemical exposure, per 29 CFR 1910.1200(h). HAZWOPER awareness is required under 29 CFR 1910.120(q)(6)(i) for any employee who may witness or report a hazardous release.

This starter pack covers awareness-level training only. The 24-hour and 40-hour HAZWOPER credentials (Operations and Technician levels) require instructor-led training with hands-on field exercises and are out of scope. Buyers needing those credentials should consult an authorized HAZWOPER training provider. Rescue team practical training also requires hands-on instructor-led exercises and is out of scope for any online catalog.

Common Questions

Does this package qualify operators for HAZWOPER 24-hour or 40-hour credentials?
No. This package includes HAZWOPER Awareness only - the entry-level training for any employee who may witness or report a hazardous release. The 24-hour and 40-hour HAZWOPER credentials (Operations and Technician levels) require instructor-led training with hands-on field exercises and are out of scope for any online-only catalog.
Is electric utility training covered?
No. Qualified-employee training under 29 CFR 1910.269 (electric utility lineman, substation work, qualified-electrical-worker credentials) is structurally outside catalog scope. These credentials are delivered through union apprenticeships, IBEW programs, and specialized providers. This starter pack serves water and wastewater operations only.
Why is Chlorine Safety English only?
Chlorine Safety is produced by a specialty provider in the catalog who does not offer Spanish narration for this specific title. The other three courses (Confined Space, HAZCOM, HAZWOPER Awareness) are bilingual EN/ES. We disclose this honestly so Spanish-speaking operators and their managers can plan accordingly.
How does this differ from the comprehensive Water & Wastewater Utilities bundle?
The starter pack is 4 courses (Confined Space, Chlorine, HAZCOM, HAZWOPER Awareness) at $70-$99 per employee, anchored on the chemical and confined-space hazards every operator needs. The comprehensive Water & Wastewater Utilities bundle is 7 courses at $123-$169 per employee, adding Disinfectant Safety (sodium and calcium hypochlorite), Treatment Plant Laboratory Safety, and Crisis Management for a complete program. Either is defensible; pick the one that matches your operation's scope.
Do employees receive a certificate of completion?
Yes. Each employee receives a downloadable certificate of completion after passing the assessment for each course. Certificates can be saved or printed for recordkeeping purposes.
